 Zen Cart: Welcome to Paradise

Zen CartAloha,

I would like to introduce Geeks-In-Paradise. This is not a web design firm, nor is it a web marketing firm, and yes, it is not a search engine optimiaztion firm, nor a training firm. It is all of these and more.

See, if you have only one of these parts to work with you to create your web presence, you will have only one peice of the jig saw puzzle. I do not know you, but I will tell you that it is a pretty boaring puzzle.  The more peices you can put together at one time, and in one place, the easier it is to get a complete picture.

We are located on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii. Therefore we specialize in that area.  Here is the proof in the pudding.  This page is setup to show you examples to help you choose our firm to bring your web presences to the finish line.

We work with small businesses on Kauai, many artist in Hawaii, and we bring many products via the interenet to the mainland from Hawaii.  So let's take a look at those examples!

1st, you need a name. What is in a name? Is a rose by any other name less sweet?  Yes. On the internet often times the name is what will make or break an internet venture.  First Google, MSN and Yahoo all look at the name as one of their first steps to give you a ranking.  If you go into MSN and type in where to eat on Kauai, you will find my first example, http://www.on-kauai.com. See, I know that MSN and Google both take in to account the name as part of the search. So, in the phrase "where to eat on Kauai," it sees the "on-kauai.com" as a big part.  Also, what is in a name should be easy to remmeber, say over the phone, and easy to read in printed materials. More about this later.

2nd, you will need hosting. So, we have our own hosting services. We host for on average $9.95 per month. It's not the cheepest on the web by far, but would you like to know that your Doctor is the cheepest in the USA?  This is paid for a year at a time, so your total yearly cost is $119.00.

3rd, You will need to figure out how much you want to learn, and how much control you want over your website.  I believe in the "teach the man to fish" axeium.  Therefore, here is the basic break down. Easy to use and maybe 8 hours of training, but very structured. That would be a PHP Nuke site. The site you are currently reading is a php nuke site.  Or here is another PHP nuke site http://www.all-about-training.com. PHP nuke sites are normally used for conveying infomation.  My site http://www.on-kauai.com is also based on the PHP nuke software.

Then there is Zen Cart. This is the  same as Php Nuke, but it is based toward selling. Please note, you can still give lots of info, but it is still a shopping cart.  Examples are http://www.on-hawaii.com, or http://www.on-oahu.com.

There is a software package made by FrontPage which makes it like you are working in MS Word, but with many tools to enhance the web side. Examples would be http://www.george-brown.info. This is fairly easy to use, but unless you want to be your own webmaster, and have time to do so, please note that a lot of people find it harder to work with.

Then you can move into a customized package like http://www.on-line-branding.com. This is a custom made website with custom code. I know you are now rubbing your hands together and saying "now that's what I am talking about." But note, this would cost about $8,000.00 and 3 months to create.  I love these sites, but they are very graphic intensive and hard to peice together.

There is also flash based websites, which are not Search engine friendly, but hey are cool looking. Here is one such flash based website, http://www.starting-a-new-business.info. or http://www.hawaiianphotoshoot.com.

There are many packages out there, and many of them can be used to create websites. I would recommend you look at their example site, and see if they would appeal to you. When ever I look at a site, I ask myself, "could I stay here,"  Then I ask, "What would I change?"

I have seen posters at local health food stores, which makes me laugh when I see someone puting up posters for web design. Thay look like they were made on a cheap printer, and yet they send you to site that is not well designed at all either.  One person told me "but they are cheap." $300+ a day is not cheap, and they are not trying to work with you.  I have the same problem with those who put say they are graphic artists and print a business card the incorrect size, and on a home based printer.

4th, we move on to SEO. Search engine optimiaztion. This iswhat gets your websites to the tops of the search engines and keeping them there.  Here is a great example. Go to both Google and MSN, and conduct a search for where to buy art on kauai. Guess who is #1 in both?  Yes, you guessed it.  The site http://www.on-kauai.com is found in over 800+ search phrases.  Go into MSN and do a search for where to eat on Kauai. We are also #1 there too.

If this is not enough, go to Google and do a search for motivational skills my site http://www.all-about-training.com is either #1 or #2 it is a matter of which day of the week it is, That is out of 1,460,000 page that is almost 1.5 million pages and I am on the top 2.

5th, once you have these things in place you then need to use the website, so we also offer business consulting on how to best use your site, and we will create a print package which would include full color business card, and brouchures.  And we have many other things to help you get more business via the web.

Please take a look down the left side of the site and check things out.

Mahalo,

George Brown
